Snaking is usually enough when
- One solid object or clog is blocking the line
- The line has not had repeated problems
- The pipe condition is unknown or fragile
- A path needs opening quickly to restore flow
Hydro jetting
Hydro jetting is a drain and sewer cleaning method that sends water at high pressure through a specialized hose and nozzle to scour grease, sludge, scale and roots from the full width of the pipe. Econo Rooter Services, Inc. provides residential, commercial and mainline hydro jetting across Coos County, northern Curry County and Reedsport, and assesses each line before setting the pressure.
How hydro jetting works
A hydro jetter feeds a flexible high-pressure hose into the line through a cleanout or drain opening. The nozzle on the end has jets that point backward, which push the hose forward through the pipe while spraying the walls, and often a forward jet that breaks into the blockage ahead. As the hose is pulled back, the water scours the full circumference of the pipe and carries the loosened material down the line.
Because the water reaches the whole pipe wall, hydro jetting removes the buildup that narrows a line over time, not just the plug that finally stopped it. That makes it well suited to lines that keep clogging, to commercial kitchens, and to main sewer lines that carry everything from the building. A line that has been jetted clean also gives a clearer picture of its condition, because buildup no longer hides cracks, sags or other damage that may need attention.

Jetting or snaking
Snaking opens a path through a clog, while hydro jetting cleans the inside of the whole pipe. A snake is often the quicker answer for a single solid blockage, and jetting is the better choice when buildup keeps narrowing the line. Many jobs start with an assessment that shows which one the line needs.
The two methods are not always a choice between one or the other. A badly blocked line is sometimes opened with a cable first so water can flow, then jetted to clean the walls so the same clog does not form again a few weeks later. Snaking with a cable machine is covered under rooter service.
Older pipes
Hydro jetting is generally safe for older pipes that are still structurally sound, as long as the pressure is matched to the pipe. That is why the line is assessed before jetting starts. When a pipe is already badly damaged, jetting is not the right tool, and another method or a repair comes first. Jetting may not be suitable when:
Older pipe materials and how they fail are explained on the sewer mainline repairs and installations page.
Our hydro jetting services
For homes with recurring clogs, hydro jetting clears grease, soap buildup and debris from the line to restore full flow and reduce future blockages.
Deeper cleaning for high-use systems in restaurants, offices and multi-unit buildings, helping keep the business running without unexpected shutdowns.
Full-length cleaning of the primary sewer connection to remove heavy buildup and roots. For the line itself, see sewer services.
Jetting lines that keep clogging, with guidance afterward on keeping them clear, so the same blockage does not keep returning.
Cost
The cost of hydro jetting depends on the line, how it can be reached and what is inside it. Econo Rooter Services explains what the job includes and gives a quote before the work starts, so there are no surprises once the hose goes in.
A long main line, or one with no outside cleanout, takes more setup than a short branch line that is easy to reach.
Soft grease clears differently from hardened scale or a mass of roots, and heavy buildup takes more time to clean fully.
Commercial kitchens and multi-unit buildings often have larger, busier lines and may need cleaning on a schedule rather than once. Planning that schedule ahead also makes the cost easier to budget than paying for repeated backups as they happen.
If jetting uncovers a crack or sag, the quote for repair work is separate and explained before anything else is done.
Our process
The sewer line is checked for buildup, roots and obstructions to decide the safest pressure and the scope of the cleaning.
Before work begins, the owner is told what the cleaning includes, what results to expect and what it will cost.
Professional jetting equipment flushes debris and residue from the line to restore flow along its length.
Flow is confirmed after cleaning, and maintenance guidance is given to help keep the line from clogging again.
Why choose Econo Rooter Services, Inc.
Hydro jetting takes more than pressure. It takes control, judgment about the pipe and an understanding of how sewer lines are built. Econo Rooter Services focuses on cleaning a line completely rather than pushing a blockage further down, and on matching the pressure to the pipe so older lines are treated with care.
The company holds an Oregon plumbing license (#6-81PB) and a Construction Contractors Board license (CCB #143577). If jetting turns up a damaged section, the same team handles sewer line repair, and for single clogs it offers drain cleaning as well. Licenses are listed on the certifications page.

Hydro jetting questions
Hydro jetting works by feeding a high-pressure hose with a specialized nozzle into the drain or sewer line. Jets at the back of the nozzle drive it forward and spray against the pipe walls, scouring away buildup, while the water carries the loosened debris down the line and out to the sewer.
How often a sewer line needs hydro jetting depends on how it is used. Restaurants and other businesses that send grease down the drains often need it on a regular schedule, while most homes only need it when clogs keep coming back. Maintenance guidance is given after each cleaning based on what was found in the line.
Hydro jetting can clear roots that have grown into a sewer line, along with the grease and debris that collect around them. Roots usually get in through a crack or loose joint, though, so if they keep returning, the damaged section may need repair to keep them out.
No. Hydro jetting cleans a sewer line, but it cannot repair a crack, a collapsed section or a sag. When the pipe itself is damaged, the line needs repair or replacement, which is handled through sewer mainline repairs and installations.
Econo Rooter Services provides commercial hydro jetting for restaurants, offices and multi-unit buildings, where heavy use and grease build up faster than in a home. Regular jetting helps keep high-use lines flowing and reduces unexpected shutdowns.
Hydro jetting uses only water under pressure, with no chemical drain cleaners. The cleaning comes from the force of the water against the pipe walls, which is why it can remove grease and scale that chemical products leave behind.
